Free agents get all the attention, but the Texas Rangers made one of the shrewdest moves last winter simply by persuading Michael Young, an All-Star at shortstop from 2004 to 2008, to move to third base. Young made the All-Star team again this season, and Elvis Andrus made a dazzling debut as the Rangers’ shortstop. Andrus, who played all but a few weeks of this season at age 20, is the first player to steal 25 bases at that age or younger since Hall of Fame member Rickey Henderson in 1979. Andrus is the sixth man in the last 30 years to play 130 games so young, joining Roberto Alomar, Ken Griffey Jr., Alex Rodriguez, Andruw Jones and Adrian Beltre. He’s also the first Elvis to hit a home run in major league history.
