Thousands report feeling magnitude 3.7 Santa Monica Bay earthquake
Thousands of people from around the Los Angeles area reported feeling a series of small earthquakes that struck the Santa Monica Bay on Monday.
A magnitude 3.7 quake that hit about four miles off Hermosa Beach around 5 p.m. brought more than 3,000 responses to the U.S. Geological Survey’s “Did You Feel It?” survey site.
The responses came mostly from sections of Santa Monica, Los Angeles’ Westside neighborhoods, Culver City, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Torrance, El Segundo and the Palos Verdes Peninsula. But the quake was also felt farther inland, including in Lakewood, Compton, Long Beach and even parts of Orange County.
There were several smaller temblors in the same general area this afternoon, including a magnitude 2.9 north of Palos Verdes, according to the USGS.
Some residents of the Westside and South Bay were awakened early this morning by a magnitude 3.6 temblor in the bay.
No damage or injuries were reported from any of the quakes.
