National Book Award longlist for young adult books announced

Share

The longlist for the 2014 National Book Award for Young People’s Literature was announced Monday. The books are drawn from many genres: fiction, science fiction and fantasy, memoir, nonfiction and mystery.

This is the second year that the National Book Foundation, which presents the National Book Awards, has announced a longlist prior to its shorter finalist list. The hope is that the longer, broader run-up to the awards will evoke the same enthusiasm in the U.S. that the Man Booker Prize does in Great Britain.

Longlists in other categories will be announced as the week progresses: Poetry on Tuesday, nonfiction on Wednesday, and fiction on Thursday.
