For contemporary art lovers who are considering an impromptu weekend visit to the new Broad museum in downtown Los Angeles, consider yourselves warned: All online weekend reserved slots are booked for the next two months.

The Broad said advance online tickets are booked for Saturdays and Sundays through mid-November, and that weekday tickets are reserved through the second week of October.

Admission to the museum is always free, but tickets are required for entry and can be obtained online.

Visitors who are willing to chance it may still be able to get in, however.

The museum said that there will be an on-site ticketing line for same-day walk-ups. So, for example, a visitor could arrive at the museum and reserve a ticket for 1 p.m. The visitor could then walk around Grand Avenue before queuing for his time slot at 1 p.m.

On days the museum is less busy, which are expected to be weekdays, visitors in the on-site ticketing line may be able to just go in at the next available time, space permitting. Visitors can also obtain tickets for future-day visits.

The Broad is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays; and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays. The museum is closed to the public on Mondays.

The museum will also be closed Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

While general admission to the Broad is free, parking in the museum garage is $12 all day on weekends, with museum validation. The validated rate for weekdays is $12 for three hours, and $12 for weeknights after 5 p.m.

Alternate parking for visitors is available at the California Plaza garage, for $8 with validation from the Broad.

L.A.’s newest art museum, which opened to the public on Sunday following several days of festivities, is a $140 million complex that houses the personal art collection of Eli and Edythe Broad. The philanthropic couple funded the museum, which is on Grand Avenue near Walt Disney Concert Hall.
