LACMA executives moving to Variety building

The Times’ Money & Co. blog has reported that top executives at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art will be moving offices to the Variety building, which is across the street from the museum campus at 5900 Wilshire Blvd.

Museum officials will move into the 14th floor and part of the 15th floor, affording them views of the LACMA campus, according to the report. Among the executives moving offices will be Michael Govan, director of the museum.

[Updated, 12:20 p.m.]: However, a LACMA spokeswoman disputed parts of the story. She said that the museum divisions affected by the move will be operations, education and graphic design.

The move is expected to take place in October. As previously reported on Culture Monster, LACMA is undertaking a $650-million renovation plan that would see large portions of the campus demolished to make way for a new design by Pritzker Prize winning architect Peter Zumthor.

The museum has also partnered with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for a new movie-related museum to be located in and around the former May Co. building on the west end of the campus. The architects for that museum are Renzo Piano and Zoltan Pali.
