MTV is hoping 2015 will be the year of Amy Schumer.
The cable network announced Wednesday that Schumer, host of Comedy Central’s “Inside Amy Schumer,” will host the 2015 MTV Movie Awards, airing live on April 12 from the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles.
“I am honored to be hosting the awards,” Schumer wrote in a statement. “I will carry the audience with me like a teen mom #breaktheinternet #breakmywater.”
Her hosting turn will coincide with other projects designed to keep Schumer in front of viewers. “Inside Amy Schumer” will return for its third season in April. And July will see the release of her feature “Trainwreck,” which Schumer wrote with director Judd Apatow.
MTV rolled out the announcement with an unusual marketing stunt in which Schumer was set to take over MTV’s Twitter, Facebook and other social-media accounts with an hour of “funny and cryptic” messages on Wednesday evening.
