The new “Destiny” expansion brings a lot of new changes.

“Destiny: The Taken King” not only adds more missions, weapons, story and level cap (with the whole progressive system reportedly being restructured), Nolan North has taken over voice acting duties from Peter Dinklage as the Ghost.

North, perhaps best known for his work on “Uncharted” and “Assassin’s Creed,” will voice the robotic character going forward. And backward.

According to Game Informer, Bungie also had North re-record all of Dinklage’s original dialogue. That means when players download the new “Taken King” expansion pack, Dinklage’s existing performance will be replaced with North’s new recordings, effectively erasing the “Game of Thrones” actor from the game completely.

“We wanted Nolan North’s version of the Ghost to wake you up at the start of the journey at level one and follow you all the way to level 40,” “Taken King” creative director Luke Smith told Game Informer.

The absence of Dinklage’s voice in “Destiny” expansion packs is not new for fans of the game. The actor did not have any additional lines in either of the previous two expansions, “The Dark Below” and “House of Wolves.”

This may be because Dinklage’s performance in “Destiny” was panned by fans and critics alike.

In fact, Dinklage’s delivery of such lines as “that wizard came from the moon” (a line from “Destiny’s” alpha test that for a while was not a part of the final release) sparked a meme embraced by even Bungie, who went on to sell a limited edition shirt containing the memorable quote for charity (which almost instantly became a bestselling item on the developer’s online store).

While we don’t know for sure if it was the poor reception to Dinklage’s performance or the actor’s scheduling that led to his absence and subsequent replacement, North seems to be looking forward to continuing with the role and exploring the character.

“I’m hoping we’re doing this for years,” said North. “I think we can evolve Ghost as we move forward over the years. In the same way that the player learns about the game and the world, maybe the Ghost grows with them.” Read the full story here.

“Destiny: The Taken King” is set for a Sept. 15 release.
