Singer Bret Michaels rushes off stage in medical emergency

Poison singer Bret Michaels cut short his performance Thursday night in New Hampshire after suffering effects of what bandmate Pete Evick said turned out to be “extremely low” blood sugar for the hard rock singer who has Type 1 diabetes.

“Tonight in Manchester NH 3 songs into the set Bret had me sing a song as he rushed off stage,” Evick wrote to fans in a post on Michaels’ Facebook page. “In the 9 years I’ve stood next to him, I’ve never seen a look like the one on his face as if I was a complete stranger. One of the crew returned instantly to notify me that Bret’s blood sugar was extremely low.”

“He returned to the stage only to announce that he could not continue,” Evick wrote. “As you all know, he is a health fanatic and fiercely monitors his blood sugar, he basically had to be dragged off the stage in the sickest of conditions.

“As of now he is being evaluated by paramedics,” Evick noted. “We will keep you posted.”

Subsequenly, Michaels’ camp tweeted to his Twitter followers: “Sending a shout out 2 all the the paramedics both on & off duty who assisted Bret tonight. No words can thank you enough for ur help - Team Bret.”

In 2010, Michaels suffered both a burst appendix requiring an emergency appendectomy and a short time later a near-fatal brain hemorrhage. Michaels, who also starred in VH1’s reality dating show “Rock of Love,” recovered from both incidents.
