Marcus Lewis drove the lane for a layup with two seconds left and No. 2-seeded Long Beach Poly (24-3) escaped over wild-card entrant Valencia, which rallied from an 18-point, third-quarter deficit at Long Beach Poly.Poly led, 26-17, at halftime and went on a 10-1 run to open the third quarter and take a 36-18 lead. Valencia senior guard Jason Lott, who had a career-high 31 points, scored 22 points in the second half to spark the Vikings’ comeback. Lott made a school-record eight three-point baskets in the game and hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 64-64 with 20 seconds left. Valencia (16-12) had nine three-pointers in the second half and 12 in the game, tying a single-game school record. Lewis finished with 23 points to lead Poly.

Long Beach Wilson 72, Corona Santiago 62
Chris Hart had 20 points, eight rebounds and seven assists and Craig Williams had 19 points, four rebounds and three assists to lead visiting Long Beach Wilson (18-10), which will play Lynwood Tuesday in the second round. Corona Santiago finished 16-12.

Los Alamitos 59, El Rancho 47
Landry Fields made five three-pointers and scored 17 points for host Los Alamitos (19-8), which outscored El Rancho, 22-3, in the third quarter. Rudy Navarrete scored 23 points for El Rancho (12-15).

Giyoh Shey had 23 points and 11 rebounds and Daniel Fleming added 22 points for visiting Murrieta Valley (14-12). Miller improved to 21-4.

Point guard Ryan Towner hit a three-point shot at the buzzer to tie the score, 55-55, and send the game into overtime for host and No. 4-seeded Cathedral City (25-2). Towner scored all of his 13 points in the fourth quarter and overtime, including making six of eight free throws in overtime, to help Cathedral City outscore Norco (13-15), 15-6, in the extra period. Nick Lee scored 17 points to lead Cathedral City, which will play Mira Costa Tuesday in the second round.

Visiting La Habra (17-12) hit 11 of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter to come back from a six-point deficit with four minutes left. Josh Salo had 15 points, 10 rebounds and five steals, Luke McDonough had 10 points and 13 rebounds and Matt Border, a 6-9 center, had six points and 10 blocked shots for the Highlanders. La Quinta is 17-11.

Jordan Wilkes scored 20 points and Vince Oliver had 14 points and 14 rebounds for host Loyola (19-7). Foothill finished 16-12.

Chad Hunt hit a three-point basket with 30 seconds left to give West Torrance (15-13) the lead for good as the Warriors completed a comeback from a 12-point, third-quarter deficit. Robbie Kobel led West Torrance with 21 points and 11 rebounds and Hunt finished with 18 points. Jarrod Carrol had 33 points for North Torrance.

Dietrich Chase and Trevor Weiss each tallied 16 points for Woodbridge (22-6). Dylan Rogers and Dustin Heiman had 10 points apiece for Los Altos (12-16).

Alex Machain also added 10 points, 13 rebounds and seven steals for the Bulldogs. Sean Wheeler had 18 points and Stan Goldsby had 16 points for Death Valley. Redlands Adventist set the school’s single-game scoring record with 111 points.

Jonathan Arid had 17 points and 16 rebounds and Phuc Dinh had 15 points, including the game-tying layup with eight seconds left in regulation for host Gabrielino (15-11), which will play at Santa Maragarita Friday. Lawrence had 28 points for Chino Hills (13-14), which led by 18 points in the third quarter.

Ganesha 55, Palm Desert 52
Friction that developed this season in the Desert Valley League continued to have an adverse affect on Palm Desert in the first round of the Southern Section playoffs Wednesday.

The visiting Aztecs played without leading scorer Justin Sobczyk, who was forced to sit out after being ejected from Palm Desert’s final league game against La Quinta.

The Aztecs suffered their second defeat at the hands of La Quinta, which is led by a former Palm Desert player Quintin Watkins. The loss dropped them into a tie with La Quinta for second place, which resulted in a lower seeding and a 95-mile drive for their first-round playoff game.

Still, the Aztecs (16-11) had their chances after cutting an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit to two on James Dockery’s fast-break layup with 40.9 seconds remaining. But Palm Desert mishandled a pass under its basket with 16.8 seconds left and then missed two three-point shot attempts in the closing seconds.

Di’Mon Phelps had 13 points and Williams Evans added 12 to lead Ganesha (19-8).

Dockery, a sophomore guard who began the season on junior varsity, scored 17 to lead Palm Desert.

Garden Grove Pacifica 52, South Hills 50
Brandon Harper hit a free throw with 18 seconds left to clinch the game and Donald Thomas had 17 points and a school-record 21 rebounds for host Pacifica (20-7). Harper finished with 12 points. Jerry Santos had 14 points for South Hills (13-9).

Northwood 62, Monrovia 55
Tino Zaragoza had 25 points and Dan Selway had 16 to help lift host Northwood (17-10). Keith Collins had 14 points and Briant Collins had 12 for Monrovia (16-11).

Rim of the World 72, Diamond Ranch 50
Luke Plante had 21 points and eight rebounds, Shawn Giordano had 21 points and five assists and Steve Creswell had 16 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks for host Rim of the World (21-7), which will play at Arlington Friday. Diamond Ranch is 11-17.

Western 63, Gahr 58 (OT)
Western freshman Jonathan Vaughn, who had spent the entire game on the bench, came in with no time remaining and made one of two free throws to send the game into overtime. With the host Pioneers trailing, 50-49, Mark Borci drew a foul as time ran out in regulation. Borci began to cramp up and was unable to attempt the two free throws. Gahr, allowed to choose anyone on Western’s roster to shoot the free throws, chose Vaughn. Matt Goodloe had 20 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, Marcus McAdam had 13 points, 15 rebounds and blocked four shots and Marc Alejandro made four of six free throws in overtime for Western (23-4), which played without leading scorer Wilmer Fiapai, who was ill. Cory Rhoane had 14 points to pace Gahr (12-16).
