San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies are looking for the killer of a 71-year-old woman whose body was found in an abandoned mine shaft in the high desert.
Sandra Jean McKinney, of Red Mountain, was reported missing Sunday afternoon. On Monday, deputies searching a desolate area near Osdick Road and U.S. Route 395 found McKinney’s body inside the mine shaft.
Homicide investigators have since taken over the case due to the “suspicious nature” surrounding her disappearance, the Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.
The circumstances surrounding the woman’s disappearance and/or what state her body was in were not immediately available.
Anyone with information on McKinney’s death was asked to call Sheriff’s Department at (909) 387-3589.
