There was a bit of Hollywood magic, or a scene from a disaster movie, in the Inland Empire on Friday morning when a movie prop helicopter being hauled on 15 Freeway hit an overpass and crashed onto the roadway.

The helicopter, painted to look like a military aircraft, was being towed southbound on the 15 about 7 a.m. when a rotor hit a part of the Duncan Canyon overpass in Fontana.

The copter was knocked off a trailer being towed by a vehicle, said Officer Marcelo Llerena.

The crash clogged two lanes on the freeway for about an hour and a half before the helicopter was lifted back onto its trailer and was driven away by a pickup truck.

The Duncan Canyon bridge is under construction and was closed before the crash. Llerena said crews were checking the integrity of the side of the bridge that was hit.
