Long Beach woman shot and killed; child is abducted but recovered

A woman was shot to death in an alley and a child was abducted but safely recovered Tuesday morning, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Long Beach Police officers responded to a report of domestic violence around 8:30 a.m. to the 1900 block of Chestnut Avenue in the South Wrigley area of Long Beach.

The officers found a woman in a nearby alley with a gunshot wound. Long Beach fire paramedics declared the woman dead at the scene.

Police officers shortly learned that a man had abducted a child from the woman. The child, whose age was not known, was found with two men in front of an apartment building unharmed, not far from the shooting site.

Police detained the two men for questioning. Investigators are trying to determined the relationship between the child, the woman and one of the men who investigators suspect was involved in the shooting.
