Motorcyclist killed after struck midair by oncoming Metro bus
A 28-year-old motorcyclist died Thursday night after he crashed into the concrete divider on the 110 Freeway in South Los Angeles, was ejected from his bike and then was “struck midair” by an oncoming Metro bus, authorities said.
The crash occurred just after 11 p.m. on the 110 Freeway north of Colden Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The motorcyclist, identified by coroner’s officials as Los Angeles resident Christopher Yarborough, was traveling southbound on the freeway when he struck the center divider and was ejected into the northbound lanes.
That’s where “the motorcyclist was struck midair by an MTA bus,” the CHP said.
Yarborough was pronounced dead about 15 minutes after the collision.
A spokesman for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority said no one on the bus was taken to the hospital and that the bus operator was not harmed.
Authorities said an investigation is ongoing.
