A 14-year-old student from Canyon High School in Anaheim has died after collapsing during football practice, authorities said Thursday.
Anaheim police Sgt. Bob Dunn said that the boy collapsed about 4 p.m. Wednesday and that some of those around him performed CPR before the teen was taken to a hospital.
The student passed away “several hours after the initial call,” Dunn said Thursday.
Investigators with the Orange County coroner’s office were working to determine the cause of death, he said. Dunn declined to release the boy’s name.
The Associated Press reported that the head football coach at the high school canceled all practices Thursday and said he is unsure when they might resume.
