A man and a child wounded in a possibly gang-related shooting in north Long Beach this week are expected to recover from their injuries, authorities said Tuesday.
The shooting occurred about 6:50 p.m. Monday in the 7000 block of Orange Avenue, according to Long Beach police Sgt. Aaron Eaton.
Someone inside a light-colored vehicle heading south on Orange Avenue fired multiple gunshots at a man walking with his bike north on the street, Eaton said. The man was struck several times in the upper torso, he said.
One of the stray bullets struck a 5-year-old boy who was with his family in the front yard of his home.
The two victims were taken to hospitals and were listed in stable condition as of Tuesday night.
Eaton said the vehicle sped away. Police do not have any further description of the assailant or the vehicle.
Investigators believe the shooting was possibly gang-related. The detectives spent most of Tuesday searching for video footage that will help them build a lead in the case, Eaton said.
