Letters: Drug law common sense

Share

Re “Holder plays catch-up,” Opinion, Aug. 13

Douglas A. Berman does not go far enough in his call to reduce the prison population.

The administration should stop pursuing medical marijuana providers altogether rather than “stop aggressively prosecuting” them. Marijuana’s medicinal uses are myriad.

Additionally, many of the low-level drug offenders are only so because of the draconian marijuana laws and ignorance about it. Legalize the stuff; it is certainly not as bad as legal alcohol, which decimates individuals and families and hurts society.

Many of the war-on-drugs laws target minority groups. The lawmakers then were basically white men who, by the way, liquor up any time they please.
