Drawing on faith

Share

From the founders’ deism to Mitt’s message on Mormonism, cartoonists have treated the super-serious subject of the supernatural with superciliousness. And there’s been plenty in between: an honest dispute over Abraham Lincoln’s beliefs; Dwight Eisenhower’s reticence about being raised a Jehovah’s Witness; JFK’s Catholicism; Richard Nixon kneeling with Henry Kissinger; Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton seeking forgiveness for lust at the heart of power; and Dubya exercising his faith to exorcise alcohol. This week, Tom Toles pondered Barack Obama’s loaves, fishes and tofu. Pat Shiplett ridiculed Rudy Giuliani’s family values. And Jack Ohman divinely charted Mike Huckabee’s political progress. Great graven images. I worship these guys.
