To the editor: Sometimes, significant news does not make major headlines. This article reports that Germany’s foreign intelligence spied on NATO ally Turkey and also “inadvertently” listened to telephone calls made by U.S. Secretary of State John F. Kerry and predecessor Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Last October it was widely reported that German Chancellor Angela Merkel was furious over reports of the National Security Agency tapping into her cellphone. Now, Turkey has summoned the German ambassador. All is publicly quiet between the United States and Germany.

What can be said at this point, other than fair is fair?
