Readers React: No excuses for fraternity hazing

Share

To the editor: While America reels from acts of barbarism in the Middle East, we fail to realize many continue in our backyard. (“CSUN fraternity shuts down after pledge’s death during hazing,” Sept. 5)

This summer, pledges from the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity at Cal State Northridge were subjected to dehydration and heat -related problems during a fraternity hazing ritual. Sadly, this ended in the death of one young man. Although school administrators gave a proper and emotional condemnation of the act, what happened is ultimately the school’s responsibility.

Until all of these outrageous rites of passage end, all public funding should be cut off. We must require more from our institutions of higher education.
