Readers React: NFL’s punishment of Ray Rice isn’t fooling anyone

Share

To the editor: Former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice was initially suspended for two games after the NFL viewed surveillance video from six months ago showing him pulling then-fiancee Janay Palmer from a casino elevator. (“Ray Rice is released by Ravens and suspended indefinitely by NFL,” Sept. 8)

Did the NFL not inquire about what may have actually happened in the elevator and request additional video? How stupid does the league think football fans are?

As for Commissioner Roger Goodell, after announcing the two-game suspension, he said that Rice “recognizes he made a horrible mistake that is unacceptable.” Goodell now needs to recognize the same for himself and the NFL.

To the editor: The anger over Rice is misplaced.

These men are trained from boyhood to hit harder and do whatever it takes to win. Is it any wonder that these players, who maim each other for our entertainment, have become thugs?
