Readers React: Dianne Feinstein’s Orwellian attempt to curtail gun rights

Share

To the editor: Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) finds it “shocking” that The Times believes a “suspected terrorist” should be able to purchase a firearm. (“Allowing suspected terrorists to buy guns is insanity,” Readers React, Dec. 12)

Her means of overcoming her shock is to encourage the passage of a law that strips thousands of American citizens of their 2nd Amendment right to bear arms on the basis of the United States attorney general summarily deciding the question, thus compelling the “suspected” terrorist to hire an expensive lawyer and file a lawsuit to do what? Convince a federal court or a federal jury that, as in the case of Brandon Mayfield (who was erroneously linked to the 2004 Madrid train bombings and arrested and detained for two weeks), there is no reasonable grounds to “suspect” the citizen is a “terrorist.”

Feinstein wants to take us deeper into the Orwellian world that she is a chief architect of. I don’t own a gun, but I will never vote for Feinstein again.
