Opinion: Exxon Mobil CEO as secretary of State? You couldn’t make that up.

To the editor: Donald Trump has tapped Rex Tillerson, the chief executive of Exxon Mobil Corp., for secretary of State. Tillerson has no government or diplomatic experience, has disturbingly close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin and has enriched himself by selling an environmentally destructive product while lying about how destructive it really is. (“Trump chooses oil tycoon and Russia friend Rex Tillerson to head State Department,”

In other words, he is a perfect fit for Trump’s Cabinet.

Trump’s Education secretary wants to dismantle public education. Trump’s attorney general opposes the Voting Rights Act. Trump’s Housing secretary opposes the Fair Housing Act. Trump’s Health and Human Services secretary wants to dismantle Medicare. Trump’s Labor secretary opposes raising the minimum wage and wants to replace workers with robots. And Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency chief is a climate change denier who has fought the very agency he was appointed to lead.

You can’t make this stuff up. Choosing Tillerson for State should cause a scandal. But it won’t. We have come to expect nothing less (and nothing more) from Trump.

To the editor: First, we have Trump scoffing at our intelligence agencies’ high confidence that we have had an attack against America and our democratic institutions from Russia.

Next, Trump is nominating Tillerson to be secretary of State. Tillerson is in bed with Russia.

Where is the Republican outrage? Do they not care about America anymore, but only their own power? Only Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) can speak out for American sovereignty?

To the editor: As a person that always tries to find the silver lining in difficult times, I would like to offer a list of the positives associated with Trump’s Cabinet choices thus far:

1. He hasn’t selected Sarah Palin, Rudy Giuliani or Newt Gingrich for any positions.

2. Well, I guess that’s it.
