Huntington Beach High will be the site Thursday for the start of a pair of All Turf varsity soccer tournaments.

The three-day event continues Friday and concludes Saturday with the boys’ (5 p.m.) and girls’ (7 p.m.) tournament championship games being played at Sheue Field.

The All Turf Girls’ Tournament hosted by Huntington features Fountain Valley, Rancho Cucamonga Los Osos, Long Beach Millikan and the Huntington Beach “Orange” team in Pool A, and Huntington Beach “Black”, Tesoro, Murrieta Valley and Garden Grove Pacifica in Pool B.

The All Turf Boys’ Tournament includes Long Beach Cabrillo, Bellflower St. John Bosco, Whittier La Serna and Marina in Pool A, and Huntington Beach, El Monte Mountain View, Los Angeles Salesian and Chino Hills in Pool B.

Boys’ Soccer

Edison won the President’s Division of the Aliso Cup by downing Aliso Niguel, 1-0, Monday. Sophomore Jack Morrel scored the lone goal off a corner kick by Jeff Wood, and Brendon Fix had three saves, for the Chargers (4-1).

“After a humbling loss in the opening game of the tournament, the guys battled back to win four, tough matches,” Edison Coach Charlie Breneman said. “They proved what they are capable of and this will hopefully give them confidence going forward.”

The Chargers took on Mission Viejo in nonleague play Wednesday. The score wasn’t available at press time. They play host to Katella at 5 p.m. Friday.

In nonleague play Monday, Huntington Beach defeated Garden Grove Pacifica, 1-0, and Ocean View fell, 6-4, to Saddleback.

Girls’ Soccer

Host Ocean View won its first two games by shutout Saturday at its own 33rd annual Winter Classic.

The Seahawks opened with a 2-0 victory over Garden Grove Santiago, with goals scored by Kaci Montoya and Kristina Cooley. In their second outing, they routed West Covina Edgewood, 9-0. Micayla Shook scored twice and Montoya, Cooley, Analisa Chavez, Madison White, Hannah Messina, Daniela Gonzalez and Iran Enriquez all scored once.

In a nonleague game Dec. 3, Ocean View blanked visiting Santa Ana Calvary Chapel, 1-0, getting the win on a goal by Montoya.

The Ocean View Winter Classic continues Saturday and concludes Monday.

In games played Monday, Edison squared its record at 1-1 by blanking Chino Hills, 3-0, at the Aliso Cup, and Fountain Valley fell, 2-1, to El Modena.

Amy Feinstein, Aubrey Grandon and Kyra Casey goals, Feinstein, Amanda Erickson and Maddy Macias had assists, and goalies Jessica Neighbors (one save) and Zoe Clevely (two saves) combined on the shutout in the net for Edison.

Wrestling

Twenty-nine teams will converge Friday at Dave Mohs Gymnasium at Edison High to compete in the Edison Beach Bash Tournament. Among the teams vying for individual and team titles are host Edison, Huntington Beach and Marina. The tournament starts Friday and runs through Saturday.
