Orlando Salido is keenly aware what the plans are should Francisco Vargas and Takashi Miura win their respective Saturday night bouts at Fantasy Springs Resort and Casino.

Still, the relentless former featherweight champion from Mexico will attend the card to help ensure no one, especially Vargas, disregards or forgets him after their likely 2016 fight of the year.

The 36-year-old Salido (43-13-4, 30 knockouts) fought his countryman and World Boxing Council super-featherweight champion Vargas (23-0-2, 17 KOs) to a thrilling draw in June at StubHub Center.

Vargas is poised to win back-to-back fight-of-the-year awards, however, after getting off the canvas while cut to knock out then-champion Miura (30-3-2, 23 KOs) in their November 2015 bout on the Canelo Alvarez-Miguel Cotto undercard.

Saturday on HBO, Miura meets Miguel Roman at Fantasy Springs in Indio and Vargas meets Miguel Berchelt (30-1, 27 KOs).

“Obviously, we have Miura on the card for a reason,” Vargas promoter Oscar De La Hoya said Monday. “It all depends on how they look. If Miura and Vargas both look sensational, then there’s no reason there shouldn’t be a rematch.

“Salido is also in the picture. He’s a great fighter, a great warrior, and we’re not going to count him out whatsoever.”

De La Hoya also announced the signing Monday of Cuba’s former world featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa and said, “Imagine the round-robin with those four.”

Gamboa was assigned to a March 11 date against Rene Alvarado on HBO, and if he performs well could also enter the conversation in a title shot at lightweight champion Jorge Linares, De La Hoya said.

Salido, though, is pushing hard for Vargas, noting the full crowd at StubHub Center and insisting there’s more fervent interest in seeing that rematch instead of a Vargas-Miura repeat.

StubHub Center has a seating capacity more than four times greater than Fantasy Springs.

“I hope [Vargas] sees me there,” Salido said. “That’s the fight the fans want to see and by me being there, I’m making myself available to him.

“The Miura business seems finished. They had a great fight, but Vargas knocked him out. With me, it was a draw – a fight a lot of people saw me as winning and we proved it was a better fight. With unfinished business. I should get the first crack at Vargas.

“I’ve made myself a big name in boxing and we can make a bigger fight than anyone else Vargas can fight. After what happened the first time, we can put it in even a bigger place. Do they want a big fight, or another small venue?”

Salido sought last year to fight World Boxing Organization super-featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko, but couldn’t negotiate a purse to his satisfaction with promoter Bob Arum.

“I tried, but I know now this fight against Vargas is the one everyone wants to see,” Salido said.
