Injured skier Ted Ligety to return to racing -- with screws in wrist

U.S. skier Ted Ligety will be carrying a little extra weight down the hill this weekend.

The two-time Olympic medalist is set to return to racing at Beaver Creek, Colo. -- with screws in his freshly broken left wrist.

“That’s my job, to be out there skiing, no matter what,” he told the Associated Press. “I wouldn’t miss this for the world.”

Ligety sustained the injury late last month during training and returned to the slopes only a few days after the screws were inserted. Still, he chose to skip last weekend’s racing in Lake Louise, Canada.

Beaver Creek has been the site of numerous victories for Ligety, who plans to race in the downhill, super-G and giant slalom on Saturday.

Another top American, Bode Miller, is recovering from back surgery that figures to keep him out of competition until early next year.
