Baseball: Loyola wins its 12th consecutive game

A 12-game winning streak isn’t too shabby. That’s what Los Angeles Loyola accomplished on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Redondo. It was the Cubs’ 12th consecutive victory since a season opening loss to Calabasas.

Jack Poulson threw five innings for the victory. Dustin Shirley had a two-run double.

John Cashman threw five shutout innings in Chatsworth’s 6-2 win over Westlake. Josh Garcia had three RBIs.

North Hollywood defeated Van Nuys, 5-4. Eddie Torres had a two-run home run to help the Huskies wipe out a 4-1 deficit.

Banning defeated Marshall, 2-1. Sophomore Michael Ramirez struck out four in six innings. Steven Ortiz drove in the winning run in the bottom of the sixth.

El Camino Real defeated Royal, 6-3. Brian Oleesky got the win and Christian Bloom had a three-run double.

Kennedy improved to 11-3 after a 2-0 win over Simi Valley. Gilbert Hernandez threw a six-hitter and picked up his third shutout of the season.

Sylmar is 13-3 after a 6-5 victory over Narbonne. Mark Razo got the save and Danny Cervacio had two hits and two RBIs. Next up for the Spartans is a two-game Valley Mission League series against San Fernando.

Calabasas defeated Santa Barbara, 4-1. Greg Cromar threw six innings for the win. Jake Baer had a home run, single and two RBIs.

Camarillo defeated Granada Hills, 5-3, despite a three-run home run by Michael Scolaro.

Birmingham defeated Grant, 2-1. Ryan Mendoza had a triple and single for the Patriots. Michael Jellinek got the victory and Adrian Rodriguez had the save.

Bell defeated Cleveland, 3-1. Newbury Park defeated Taft, 9-6. Leighton Demello had three hits and Jeff Tincher had two doubles. Gedeon Ellis had four RBIs for Taft.

Buena defeated Hamilton, 5-0, behind pitcher Charlie Brooks. Tony Fonzo hit a three-run home run.

Arleta defeated Roosevelt, 5-3. Nate Casillas and Jesse Guzman each had three hits.
