Baseball: Sophomore Michael Thomas pitches Mater Dei to 5-0 victory
Sophomore Michael Thomas of Santa Ana Mater Dei threw a complete-game, three-hit shutout to lift the Monarchs past Santa Margarita, 5-0, on Monday in a Trinity League game.
Brandon Perez and Josh Stephen broke a 0-0 deadlock with RBI singles in the fifth inning. Stephen finished with two RBI and Perez had two hits. Mater Dei improved to 11-7 and 2-3.
Thomas came in with an 0.55 ERA.
“He’s throwing strikes,” Coach Burt Call said. “He’s just very consistent, hits his spots and works in and out. He’s done a great job for us.”
Henry Martinez threw six innings in St. John Bosco’s 6-3 win over Servite.
Orange Lutheran scored five runs in the seventh inning to toppled No. 1 JSerra, 8-3. Zach Busalacchi had two hits and two RBI. Zachary Lew and Andre Riverroy added two hits apiece for the Lancers. Cole Spears threw the final three innings to shut down the Lions.
In the Valley Mission League, Kennedy defeated Canoga Park, 26-0. Alejandro Vasquez had two hits and three RBI.
Concordia defeated Newbury Park Adventist, 6-2. Ethan Peterson pitched a complete game.
