Boys’ basketball: Justice Sueing leads Mater Dei past Santa Margarita

It was another win and another milestone for Mater Dei Coach Gary McKnight on Wednesday night. The Monarchs (20-1, 4-0) won a Trinity League showdown over host Santa Margarita, 78-67.
Justice Sueing had 31 points and Spencer Freedman 18. Adrease Jackson led Santa Margarita with 33 points and Jake Kyman added 15.
For McKnight, it marks 35 consecutive seasons in which his teams have won 20 or more games. He’s the winningest coach in California history.
St. John Bosco defeated Servite, 60-36. Alpha Okoli had 16 points. Jacob Lord led Servite with 17 points. JSerra defeated Orange Lutheran, 58-49. Sebastian Much and Joel Mensah each had 14 points. Chris Williams led the Lancers with 17.
In the Mission League, Chaminade handed Harvard-Westlake its first league defeat, 53-47. Jack Gallant scored 12 points and Sebastian Lopez 11.
Alemany stayed unbeaten with a 62-49 win over St. Francis. Fred Odhiambo finished with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Alemany is 16-3 and 5-0. Crespi won its rivalry game over Notre Dame, 58-51. Kyle Owens and Russell Stong each had 15 points. Ziaire Williams led Notre Dame with 16 points.
La Canada defeated Temple City, 66-45. Sean Estes scored 23 points.
Oak Park held off Camarillo, 59-58. Wes Slajchert’s free throw provided the winning point. He scored 16 points. Riley Battin had 25 points and 11 rebounds. Jonah Cottrell scored 17 points for Camarillo.
Simi Valley defeated Moorpark, 63-51. Jacob Grebeta scored 28 points.
In the Sunset League, Edison took over first place with a 71-56 win over Los Alamitos. Randall Walker scored 38 points.
Oxnard is 19-3 after a 99-31 win over Channel Islands. Alex Lanns had 23 points.
Flintridge Prep defeated McAuliffe, 69-49. Jake Althouse had 24 points.
Rolling Hills Prep defeated Pacific Hills, 63-33. Alex Garcia finished with 24 points.
Rip Economou had 23 points in Santa Monica’s 68-56 win over Beverly Hills.
