Boys’ basketball: St. John Bosco rallies for win over JSerra

Despite turmoil with player defections, St. John Bosco still has the big three in Daniel Hamilton, Tyler Dorsey and Vance Jackson, and they rallied the Braves to a 76-73 victory over JSerra in a Trinity League game.

Hamilton scored 28 points, Jackson 24 points and Dorsey 17. St. John Bosco (2-0 in league) came back from a 12-point deficit. Dorsey later tweeted that he has committed to Arizona. He’s a junior guard.

No. 1 Mater Dei defeated Orange Lutheran, 65-48. Stanley Johnson had 22 points and 10 rebounds. MJ Cage added 15 points and 15 rebounds. CJ Hankins led Orange Lutheran with 22 points. The Monarchs host St. John Bosco on Wednesday. Santa Margarita defeated Servite, 66-39.

La Canada gave Coach Tom Hofman his 600th career victory with a 73-62 win over La Salle.

In the Marmonte League, Calabasas routed Thousand Oaks, 70-39. Larry Bush had 16 points and Austin Smith aded 15 points and 13 rebounds. Westlake defeated Agoura, 70-48. Jeremiah Gray scored 20 points and Luis Herrera made four three-pointers for Westlake. Royal defeated Moorpark, 62-46. Nick Brandon scored 26 points. Newbury Park defeated Simi Valley, 77-72. Tyler Cartaino had 32 points.

Buckley improved to 19-0 with an 81-47 win over Coast Union. Austin Butler finished with 24 points and Andrew Schiantereeli made seven threes and had 21 points.

In his first game since suffering an injury on Dec. 12, Robert Cartwright scored 11 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter to help Flintridge Prep defeat Pasadena Poly, 41-39, in a Prep League opener.

In the Moore League, Long Beach Poly defeated Long Beach Jordan, 66-52. Compton defeated Lakewood, 74-55. Robert Lewis had 18 points.

Spencer Gorman scored 29 points in St. Monica’s 65-49 win over West Torrance. Oaks Christian defeated Oak Park, 68-50. Austin Moye and Jordan Flannery had 12 points apiece.

Grant defeated San Fernando, 68-28. Tony Reyes had 23 points.

Fairfax defeated Washington, 85-54. Olisaemeka Nwachie had 25 points and 13 rebounds. Sage Woodruff added 19 points.

Poly defeated St. Genevieve, 70-52. Cesar Reyes scored 18 points and Mario Castaneda 16 for Poly. Ross Lee had 24 points for St. Genevieve.
