Boys’ basketball: Westchester finishes regular season at 25-4

There will be little drama on Saturday when the City Section Division I playoff pairings are decided. Westcheser will be the No. 1 seed and El Camino Real No. 2. Both schools ended the regular season on Friday night with unbeaten records in league play.

Westcheser (25-4, 12-0) defeated LACES, 67-50, in the Western League. Elijah Stewart scored 23 points. Fairfax finished in second place after a 68-62 victory over University. Pierson Ro made 10 of 10 free throws and finished with 19 points. Landon Drew had 14 points. Darnell Bettis had 23 points and C.J. Sinada 21 for University.

In the West Valley League, El Camino Real (21-6, 10-0) defeated Cleveland, 97-63. Julian Richardson scored 24 points, Evan Wardlow had 20 and Maleke Haynes finished with 11 assists. Taft defeated Granada Hills, 54-53. Serigne Athj scored 26 points and had 14 rebounds and five blocks in Birmingham’s 74-59 win over Chatsworth.

In the East Valley League, Verdugo Hills (25-4, 12-0) pulled out a 54-53 overtime victory over Sun Valley Poly. Carter Otte had the game-winning shot with 20 seconds left. Cesar Reyes led Poly with 21 points. Grant defeated Monroe, 82-49. Grant made 17 three-pointers, the second most in school history. Tony Reyes made six threes and had 18 points. Daleshaun Jackson also had 18 points.

In the Valley Mission League, Sylmar finished 12-0 after an 89-37 over Panorama.

In the Eastern League, Roosevelt defeated Garfield, 57-50, in overtime. Jonathan Hernandez scored 21 points, including two free throws with six seconds left in regulation. Sophomore Johnny Gomez made four three-pointers. South Gate (18-12, 10-2) defeated South East, 60-44. Joseph Smart had 12 points and Gerardo Zavala 11.

In a Marine League upset, league champion Narbonne was beaten by Washington, 54-50. In the Coliseum League, Dorsey defeated Crenshaw, 66-60. San Pedro defeated Carson, 70-63. Quincy Thomas had 26 points and 12 rebounds.
