Football: Cathedral gets test from rival Salesian on Friday

Cathedral QB looks forward to Salesian

There will be no need for a pregame pep talk for Cathedral or Salesian players on Friday night. They know their alumni want a win in an Angelus League rivalry game set for L.A. Southwest College. And their classmates want bragging rights, too.

But the game itself means plenty toward a possible league title. Salesian (4-2) already owns a win over St. Francis. Cathedral (6-0) still has to play the Golden Knights, but getting past the Mustangs would create a clear path toward first place.

The quarterback play will be important. Cathedral’s offense revolves around quarterback Andrew Tovar, who’s very good at spreading the ball to a strong group of receivers.

Salesian quarterback Robbie Blosser transferred from Venice and will get his first taste of the intensity of the rivalry.

Cathedral must be prepared for the speed of Salesian’s Deommodo Lenoir.

Not making turnovers and avoiding penalties can be very helpful in a game where the crowd will be noisy and active.
