Football: It’s No. 1 vs. No. 1 in Camarillo-Calabasas battle
- Share via
Big things are happening on Friday night in Calabasas, and it doesn’t have anything to do with the Kardashians.
Camarillo (6-0), ranked No 1 in the Northern Division, faces Calabasas (6-0), ranked No. 1 in the Western Division, in a game that should reveal plenty about both teams.
Camarillo gave a hint of what it’s capable of by knocking off a good St. Bonaventure team, 49-20, last week.
Calabasas was on cruise control until defeating St. Francis, 34-0, two weeks ago. That win got people to understand the Coyotes have lots of Division I talent. But a win over Camarillo could clear the way for a potential unbeaten season.
Camarillo Coach Jack Willard likes his team.
“We have a great senior class,” he said. “They’re good high school football players.”
There are several multiple-sport athletes starring for the Scorpions. Quarterback Jake Constantine and receivers Elijah Alexander and Frankie Tostado are baseball standouts.
Camarillo’s defense will be tested by Calabasas quarterback Tristan Gebbia, a heavily recruited junior who has passed for 1,438 yards and 15 touchdowns.
It’s a matchup expected to produce lots of excitement.
