Football: More schools using helmets with sensors that warn about impact hits

Share

Crescenta Valley, Glendale and Hoover are the latest football teams that will be using the Riddell InSite Impact Response System this season.

Sensors in the helmet alert a staff member carrying a beeper when a player experiences a significant single impact or multiple impacts during a game or practice.

Westlake was one of the first schools to use the sensors last season. Coach Jim Benkert said he purchased more than a dozen. He said the beeper went off three times but none of the players had to be taken out of a game last season.
