Football: Narbonne linebacker Lawson Hall glad team gets to practice

Standout linebacker Lawson Hall of Narbonne woke up Tuesday morning getting ready to go to school when his mother, a police officer for LAPD, informed him school had been canceled.

“I didn’t believe her and checked social media and the news and realized it was canceled,” he said.

The Los Angeles Unified School District shut down its campuses because of what is being called a “credible threat” of violence.

But Hall and his football teammates are grateful that Gardena Serra Coach Scott Altenberg has made Serra’s practice facility available, and the Gauchos will be one of the few teams in LAUSD that gets to practice this afternoon. Narbonne has a CIF state championship 1-A bowl game set for Saturday in Sacramento.

“It is very important we practice, but we won’t be able to get our equipment because it’s still at the school,” he said. “We have to make the most of our opportunity.”

Hall said he agreed with the decision to close school for safety reasons.

“I’m praying nothing happens and everything is good,” he said.
