Football: Upland running back Jake Payton declared ineligible

Jake Payton, a running back who transferred from San Dimas to Upland, has been declared ineligible by the Southern Section.

Payton will have to appeal to gain eligibility this fall. He rushed for nearly 1,700 yards and 22 touchdowns as a junior.

“He’s a great kid, he’s worked hard all summer and he lives in the city of Upland,” Coach Tim Salter said.

San Dimas challenged his transfer.
