LA84 Foundation awards $1.3 million in grants

The LA84 Foundation has awarded $1.3 millin in grants to 29 youth sports programs in Southern California.

The largest grant was $449,820 for the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Beyond the Bell program for after school intramural sports at 95 middle schools.

A gang reduction and youth development summer night lights program will receive $75,000 to extend summer hours at 32 parks and recreation centers.

Five youth football organizations will receive grants. They do not offer tackle football to children 8 or younger, have agreed to teach tackling techniques to reduce head trauma and will limit contact drills during practices.

Students Run America received $125,000 to train middle school and high school students for the L.A. Marathon.

The Rose Bowl Aquatics Center received $54,443 for a learn-to-swim program for third graders in the Pasadena Unified School District.
