USC-bound Jordan McLaughlin scored 30 of his 32 points after halftime on Saturday night, including a floater with six seconds left in regulation to tie the game, and Etiwanda went on to defeat St. John Bosco, 62-53, in overtime at the Nike Extravaganza at Mater Dei.

McLaughlin had been tentative in the first half and was worried about an ankle he had rolled on Friday night. Etiwanda fell behind, 22-16, against St. John Bosco’s 2-3 zone defense. But everything changed in the second half.

“I was a little scared to play on it,” he said. “In the second half, it was feeling great, so I was able to play to my full potential.”

He made five three-pointers to carry the Eagles to victory. Daniel Hamilton had 18 points and Tyler Dorsey had 15 for the Braves (14-8), who were trying to give Coach Derrick Taylor his 300th career victory. Etiwanda improved to 21-3.

Westchester was beaten by DeMatha, 61-56, in overtime. Corey Henson scored 33 points for DeMatha. Elijah Stewart scored 32 points for Weschester, including 22 in the first half when he made nine of 11 shots (four of five from three-point range).

Missed free throws cost the Comets.
