Update: One name can be removed from the conversation when it comes to ever-present trade rumors: Francois Beauchemin. The Ducks signed the veteran defenseman to a three-year contract extension worth $10.5 million. The breakdown is $3.5 million in each of the next three years. Beauchemin has six goals and 18 points in 45 games this season and is a plus-one on the plus-minus scale. The 31-year-old would have been an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season, but Beauchemin told reporters after practice on Friday that contract talks between his side and the Ducks started just before Christmas. This is his second stint in Anaheim and being with the Ducks seems to bring out the best in his game. Additionally, the Ducks recalled forward Mark Bell from their minor-league affiliate in Syracuse. Bell has not played in an NHL game since April 5, 2008. It is also expected that Kyle Palmieri will be recalled by the Ducks from Syracuse on Saturday.
