Mark Trumbo drives in four runs in Angels’ 9-2 win over San Diego

AT THE PLATE: Mark Trumbo’s four runs batted in increased his team-leading spring total to 20. Leadoff batter Maicer Izturis singled twice and scored a run, Jeff Mathis had two hits and two runs to boost his spring average to .395, and Alberto Callaspo had two hits and two runs to increase his spring average to .368.

ON THE MOUND: Dan Haren had little trouble pitching to a lineup that included only one regular, limiting the Padres to one run and three hits in five innings. Hisanori Takahashi’s spring scoreless streak came to an end at 11 innings, but relievers Kevin Jepsen, Jordan Walden and Rich Thompson each threw hitless innings.

EXTRA BASES: As expected, Manager Mike Scioscia selected Jered Weaver as the Angels’ opening-day starter. The right-hander will be followed in a four-man rotation by Haren, Ervin Santana and Scott Kazmir, with Joel Pineiro (tightness right shoulder-blade) penciled in for the April 8 home opener.

UP NEXT: Santana faces the Dodgers and left-hander Ted Lilly at Dodger Stadium on Monday at 7 p.m. Outfielders Vernon Wells and Torii Hunter, out because of minor leg injuries, are expected to play.
