Matt Carpenter will rejoin the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday at Cleveland after not playing in a weekend series at Pittsburgh because of dehydration and fatigue.

Carpenter is among the National League leaders with a .333 batting average and tied for the league lead with 14 doubles. He had been hitting .378 before a two-for-18, although both hits were home runs.

General Manager John Mozeliak said that Tyler Lyons will remain in the Cardinals rotation for now, filling the spot of sidelined ace Adam Wainwright.

Rangers send Rougned Odor to triple A

The Texas Rangers optioned second baseman Rougned Odor to triple-A Round Rock.

Odor hit .144 in 29 games. He struck out 25 times in 90 at-bats.

Odor was 20 and the youngest player in the majors when he made his major league debut last May. He hit .259 in 114 games in 2014.

Reds designate Kevin Gregg for assignment

The Cincinnati Reds designated reliever Kevin Gregg for assignment.

The Reds signed Gregg to a minor league deal in the off-season. He was 0-2 with a 10.13 earned-run average in 11 appearances, giving up 12 earned runs and three home runs in 10 2/3 innings.

Yankees’ Masahiro Tanaka to throw bullpen session

New York Yankees right-hander Masahiro Tanaka is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Tuesday, his first since going on the 15-day disabled list last month because of a right forearm strain and right wrist tendinitis.

Tanaka made 10 pitches at 60 feet on level ground after a throwing session on flat ground before Monday night’s game at Tampa Bay. He is 2-1 with 3.22 ERA in four starts this season.
