Westlake’s Alex Ball is named nation’s top high school kicker
It has been a season of redemption for senior kicker Alex Ball of Westlake Village Westlake, who on Saturday night was recognized as the top high school kicker in the nation when he became the recipient of the Herbalife 24 Chris Sailer Award.
Ball, who made 19 field goals this season, was the kicker who missed a potential game-winning field goal last year in the final seconds of the Northern Division championship game against Westlake Village Oaks Christian.
Afterward, his disappointment was immense. But he spent the off-season working hard to reverse his fortunes, and he succeeded.
“I had a lot of support from family, coaches and friends,” Ball said. “I had to forget very quickly.”
Ball suffered a torn knee ligament last week against Oaks Christian, making him unavailable Saturday for the CIF state championship Open Division bowl game against Concord De La Salle. But he was on the sideline supporting his teammates.
