San Francisco 5, Dodgers 3

AT THE PLATE: The offense remains stalled. The Dodgers loaded the bases with no outs in the second inning, but got only one run out of it, as Ivan DeJesus Jr. grounded into a double play. The organization’s reigning minor league player of the year, Jerry Sands, drew a walk and scored a run.

ON THE MOUND: Jon Garland pitched three innings in his spring debut and held the Giants to an unearned run, two hits and a walk. Closer Jonathan Broxton issued a walk in an otherwise perfect inning. The Dodgers’ $12-million setup man, Matt Guerrier, gave up a solo home run.

EXTRA BASES: This is only spring training, huh? Tell that to Marcus Thames. After Garland hit Cody Ross on the wrist in the top of the second, Giants starter Barry Zito immediately returned the favor by hitting the first batter he faced in the bottom half of the inning, which happened to be Thames.

UP NEXT: Clayton Kershaw faces the Cincinnati Reds and Bronson Arroyo at Camelback Ranch at noon PST Saturday.

ON THE AIR: TV: None. Radio: 790, 1020 (Spanish).
