Dodgers shut out for first time this spring

AT THE PLATE: The Dodgers were shut out for the first time this spring, and were held to four hits. But some of the regulars played deep into the game to prepare for opening day. Outfielders Andre Ethier and Matt Kemp weren’t taken out until the eighth inning, and first baseman James Loney played into the ninth.
ON THE MOUND: Clayton Kershaw threw 94 pitches in his penultimate start of the spring, and gave up two runs and eight hits over five innings. He struck out five. Kershaw almost didn’t pitch Monday. He originally was scheduled to face the Oakland Athletics in the first game of a day-night doubleheader, which was called off because of rain.
EXTRA BASES: While the Dodgers were playing the Diamondbacks, Hall of Fame Spanish-language broadcaster Jaime Jarrin was being honored at Club Nokia. Jarrin, who is beginning his 53rd season as the Dodgers’ Spanish voice, received a Media and Entertainment Excellence Award from the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists Foundation.
