Update: A 1-0 loss at Real Salt Lake last weekend ended a five-game unbeaten streak for Chivas. After the match, MLS suspended Chivas midfielder/forward Marcos Mondaini for four games and fined him $1,500 for a “reckless” tackle that resulted in Real forward Javier Morales suffering two broken bones and torn ligaments in his left ankle. The league described the tackle as “late, clumsy and from behind.” Mondaini will not be able to return until the June 4 game against Portland. Chivas defender Andrew Boyens also is suspended and probably will be replaced by Michael Lahoud on Saturday. Speaking before the stretch of games during which Chivas plays Real Salt Lake, New York and the Galaxy, Coach Robin Fraser said: “It’ll be a real test. We talk about defending well; this is going to be a true test of that. And can we create the opportunities we’ve been creating against those teams? We look forward to it. It’s just another step in growing. You can’t avoid playing these teams, so the time has come and we’ve prepared ourselves, and we’re hoping that we go in and give a good account of ourselves.”
