Update: Chivas USA’s postseason hopes aren’t dead just yet — but the breathing is shallow and the pulse is weak. To keep those flickering hopes alive Chivas, which ended a seven-match winless streak with a win over Toronto on Sept. 24 — will need quite a bit of cooperation from the teams ahead of it in the standings. But Chivas will have to help itself, too, by winning its final three matches, beginning Sunday against the Philadelphia Union. The match also has serious playoff implications for the Union, which is battling for the Eastern Conference top seeding into the postseason. Philadelphia, coming off a dramatic win over D.C. United on Thursday, played defender Sheanon Williams (hamstring contusion) and midfielder Freddy Adu (ankle strain) only limited minutes in that match and held striker Danny Mwanga (hip flexor strain) out entirely. Of the three, Williams is the most doubtful for Sunday. For Chivas, defender Heath Pearce is questionable with a hamstring problem.
