Johnny Manziel, Manti Te’o and Collin Klein are Heisman finalists

Texas A&M; quarterback Johnny Manziel, Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o and Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein were announced Monday as finalists for the Heisman Trophy.

The winner will be announced Saturday in New York.

USC receiver Marqise Lee, who caught a nation-leading 112 passes and is third nationally in all-purpose yardage, averaging 215.7 yards a game, was regarded as a contender to earn a trip to the Heisman ceremony. But Lee finished too far behind the top three in balloting that concluded Monday at 5 p.m. EST.

Manziel, a redshirt freshman, passed for 3,418 yards and 24 touchdowns, with eight passes intercepted. He also rushed for 1,181 yards and 19 touchdowns while leading Texas A&M; to a 10-2 record, including a victory at Alabama.

Te’o, a senior, intercepted seven passes and anchored a Notre Dame defense that led the Fighting Irish to a 12-0 record and a spot in the Bowl Championship Series title game against Alabama.

Klein, a senior, passed for 2,490 yards and 15 touchdowns, with seven passes intercepted. He also rushed for 890 yards and 22 touchdowns while leading Kansas State to an 11-1 record and the Big 12 Conference championship. Kansas State will play Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl.
