Ravens’ Ray Lewis out Sunday against Broncos

Injured Baltimore linebacker Ray Lewis won’t play Sunday against the Denver Broncos. Lewis has been sidelined since tearing his right triceps on Oct. 14 against the Dallas Cowboys.

His absence means the Ravens will be short at middle linebacker on Sunday. Jameel McClain is out with a neck injury and the status of Dannell Ellerbe (sprained ankle) is uncertain.

Baltimore hopes to have outside linebacker Terrell Suggs, who missed last week’s game because of a torn right biceps.

NHL players to vote on wheter to disband union

Voting by the NHL Players Assn. is scheduled to begin Sunday as the membership decides whether to give its executive board the authority to disband the union. A ‘yes’ vote would not necessarily mean the board would go ahead and file a disclaimer of interest but it is a much faster and more informal action than decertification. The NHL, in preemptive moves against the NHLPA on Friday, field a lawsuit in federal court and an unfair labor practice charge with the National Labor Relations Board.

Ryan Lochte broke the 100-meter individual medley world record Saturday in the semifinals of the short-course world championships at Istanbul, finishing in 50.71 seconds.

The five-time Olympic champion broke the mark set by Slovenia’s Peter Mankoc in 2009. On Friday, the American star broke the world record in the 200 IM.

The United States won the women’s 400 freestyle relay, with Megan Romano, Jessica Hardy, Lia Neal and Allison Schmitt finishing in 3:31.01.

American skier Steven Nyman took advantage of changing conditions for an improbable win in a shortened World Cup downhill because of heavy snowfall and low visibility at Val Gardena, Italy.

Nyman also won this race in 2006 but has struggled with injuries in recent seasons.

Daniel Popovic shot a three-under-par 69 to take a two-stroke lead into the final round of an Australian PGA championship marked by lesser-known golfers dominating the marquee players.

Popovic, outside the top 1,000 in world rankings, had a 54-hole total of 13-under 203 on the Palmer Coolum Resort course. Fellow Australian Andrew Brown, who has never won as a professional, shot 64 to move into second place.

U.S. Champions Tour regular Peter Senior, last week’s Australian Open winner, was tied for third with fellow Australian Matthew Griffin another stroke back.

Kyrie Irving has another injury and the Cavaliers have another masked player. Cleveland’s star point guard, who only recently returned after missing 11 games with a broken finger, fractured a bone in his jaw when he took a hard fall in Friday night’s loss at Milwaukee. Irving was fitted with a protective mask for Saturday’s game against the Knicks.
