Deron Williams says he is staying with the Nets

Deron Williams, considered one of the top NBA free agents available this summer, says he is staying with the Nets.

The All-Star point guard announced on his Twitter account Tuesday he will be staying with the team as it makes the move to Brooklyn next season. He tweeted a photo of the team’s new logo along with saying he “made a very tough decision today.”

The Associated Press reports a person with knowledge of Williams’ decision says he is agreeing to a five-year contract worth $98 million. Contracts cannot be signed until July 11.

Several teams were considered to be in the running for Williams, including the Dallas Mavericks.

Williams averaged 21 points and 8.7 assists per game during his seventh professional season in 2011-12.

The former first-round draft selection is expected to play for the U.S. men’s basketball team at the upcoming London Olympic Games. He is scheduled to report to Team USA training camp in Las Vegas on Thursday.
