Kings’ Drew Doughty will not face sexual assault charges

Kings defenseman Drew Doughty will not face sexual assault charges stemming from an alleged incident in March.

Los Angeles County prosecutors announced Wednesday that because of a lack of evidence, they will not pursue charges after the defenseman.

A 25-year-old woman claimed she was raped by Doughty after they met at a bar near the Hermosa Beach Pier.

The woman reported the alleged incident to Hermosa Beach police the same day, but detectives told The Times’ Andrew Blankstein that they “found credibility problems” with her account. Detectives said she “was less than cooperative” and that she refused to call Doughty while they listened in on the conversation.

Drafted second overall by the Kings in 2008, Doughty signed an eight-year, $56-million contract before the start of the Kings’ 2011-12 Stanley Cup championship season.

He recorded two goals and four assists during the team’s postseason run.
