Tony Stewart wins rain-shortened Auto Club 400 race

Tony Stewart was declared the winner of the Auto Club 400 in Fontana on Sunday when officials called the NASCAR Sprint Cup race after an approximately 30-minute rain delay.

Stewart clearly had the best car and worked his way up from his starting position of ninth to take the lead by the 85th lap.

The race was without a caution period until Lap 123 when rain started falling in Turn 3. They continued under caution for six laps before red flagging the race.

The band of rain was on everyone’s mind from the start. The racing was spirited as everyone knew that 200 laps, the halfway point and minimum distance for a race to become official, might not happen.

The race went without a restart causing the cars to be strung out over the two-mile track.

The remainder of the top 10 were Denny Hamlin, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kevin Harvick, Carl Edwards, Greg Biffle, Ryan Newman, Martin Truex Jr., Kurt Busch and Jimmie Johnson.
